This morning (August 23) in Hanoi, the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) in collaboration with Netflix organized the Workshop “Developing Vietnam’s cultural and creative industries in digital era”.
The event was attended by representatives of management agencies of ministries, departments and branches such as: Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Information and Communications…, and cities wishing to join the Network. UNESCO Creative Cities (UCCN); domestic and international experts and a large number of artists and people working in the cultural and creative industries in Vietnam.
The workshop “Developing Vietnam’s cultural and creative industries in the digital era” is part of a series of cooperative activities to implement the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in culture, creative economy, sports and tourism. between the Department and the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (Amcham) of which Netflix is a member.
The conference focused on discussing the opportunities and challenges of the industry to find solutions to preempt the wave of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution, based on the development of information technology, digital technology, the internet, and global connectivity in many fields and people, has been having a strong impact on culture in general. and cultural and creative industries in particular. Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Dr. Nguyen Phuong Hoa, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, said that the breakthrough of digital technology brings many opportunities for the development of cultural and creative industries, ensuring access for everyone. . On the other hand, digital transformation and the explosion of artificial intelligence also pose many challenges such as copyright issues, loss of safety, network security, and direct impacts on the rights and livelihoods of people. cultural practitioners, innovators.
“Through this conference, we hope to create opportunities for policymakers, research experts, cultural and art practitioners… to discuss the domestic and international context to develop cultural and creative industries in the digital environment, analyzing opportunities and challenges that Vietnam will face, listening to share experiences of some countries in the region on building industrial development policies cultural and creative industries to meet the needs of creators and the current trend of digitalisation”, Dr. Nguyen Phuong Hoa said.

One of the highlights of the workshop was the publication of research results on the current state of policy development for cultural and creative industries in the digital environment in Vietnam. The author group including experts from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Information and Communications has provided listeners with a fairly comprehensive and detailed view including the macro-policy system, the policies of the Ministry of Information and Communications. promoting the development of digital infrastructure, policies on culture and cultural industries in general and specific policies for each cultural industry in particular. From here, experts have made an assessment of the advantages, disadvantages, opportunities and challenges for Vietnam’s cultural and creative industries in the digital environment, and proposed a number of solutions to promote the development of the country’s cultural industry in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
The above research is also one of the bases for the two discussion sessions that followed immediately after the Conference. The first session focused on learning about the opportunities and challenges for Vietnam’s cultural and creative industries from the perspective of those who directly “practice” the arts. The speakers came from creative industries, representing different economic sectors such as State agencies (Dr. Nguyen Anh Minh – Director of Vietnam Fine Arts Museum), foreign corporations with representatives in Vietnam (Mr. Tran Thang Long – Universal Music Vietnam) or a domestic private enterprise (Mrs. Le Quynh Nhu – DeeDee Animation Studio)… enthusiastically shared about their experiences and concerns, the agency , your business when developing and operating in a digital environment.
