Several notable filming locations include the Hotel Majestic, the Independence Palace, Lê Hồng Phong Specialist Secondary School, and Chợ Lớn in District 5 in Saigon. Travel to Huỳnh Thủy Lê Ancient House in Sa Đéc, Đồng Tháp and you can see the house of Huỳnh Thủy Lê, the man the film's male lead is based on. L'Amant's portrayal of Vietnam during the 1920s offers a unique perspective on the country's colonial history and the personal stories intertwined with it.
