“True Love” by director Huynh Cong Nho wins Award at the 36th Singapore International Film Festival, 2025

At the awards ceremony of the 36th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), the Special Mention Award in the Southeast Asian Short Film Competition was presented to True Love directed by Huynh Cong Nho

The Jury granted this distinction to a work that stands out for its distinctive artistic approach.

According to the Jury’s citation: “This film tackles weighty themes through an embrace of its own limitations, deftly interweaving past and present through evocative sound and imagery, and exploring both personal and national resonances in a condensed yet impactful manner.

What the film lacks in resources, it compensates for with wit and abundant imagination. We wish to encourage the director to continue pursuing this direction. For its confident fusion of the personal and the political into a lyrical and compelling whole, this Special Mention is awarded to True Love.”

Director Huynh Cong Nho along with actors Dam Quang Trung, Nguyen Minh Tu (M Tu), and several other team members, are alumni of the “Autumn Meeting” (Gặp gỡ mùa thu) filmmaking workshop. Huỳnh Công Nhớ also holds the record as one of the youngest Vietnamese directors with the largest number of short films produced over more than a decade devoted to cinema.
